Getting into a more business-oriented mindset can be extremely helpful when you are starting a business or want to make improvements to your business. From my experience, a business mindset is all about approaching your business with less personal opinions and objective information, and more facts and positive mindsets. 

The very first thing to understand is the purpose of business, which is to make money. Without steady income, a business cannot run. Period. It is important to remember this as you are new in your business, because if you cannot create a steady income with what you are selling, this will be difficult. Also keep this in mind as you begin to build up your testimonials and portfolio. The last thing I would recommend is continuing to do free work over and over again, because at the end of the day, you have a business to run.

Next, you must understand the time that you need to commit to create a successful business. Creating a business is hard. It is not always fun and it usually isn’t pretty. Social media and our society glamorizes entrepreneurship, when in reality, entrepreneurs work painstakingly long hours and days to make their dreams come true. If you cannot commit to this, then the lifestyle may not be for you. 

You should also do specific research around your niche to learn more about how other people were able to succeed. Never be afraid to pick up the phone and talk to competitors around how they started their business. More often than not, people are quick to help.

As you are building and growing your business, try to create a system for testing different strategies within your business to see what does and does not work. For example, you could try running Facebook ads for a few weeks to see if this helps. Next, you could try content marketing through Instagram. 90% of the battle is testing strategies to see what sticks.

Finally, look at what the data is telling you. Find a way to measure your success according to the numbers. Whether that is through sales, impressions, page views, watch time (or something completely different), data is one of the most reliable ways to determine if you are on the right track in your business.
