If you think about it, productivity is the key to moving forward and being successful in our businesses and lives. Without the ability to stay focused and be productive, it would be nearly impossible to get anything done. With that being said, there are currently so many different distractions out there that can make it very easy to get off task. As someone who usually has a long to-do list, I’ve learned some methods for staying on task and being super productive.

Let’s go ahead and get into the list!

The very first thing that you could do to improve your productivity is to get clear on what you need to be doing in order to meet your goals. This can be difficult if you have multiple goals or aren’t super clear on what specifically it will take to meet these goals. If you are struggling with this, try using the SMART goal framework. If you need more information, check out this video on SMART goals.

Ok, so after you have an understanding of what you must do to meet your goals, go ahead and create a list based on these tasks. It is great to jot down everything that will be required to meet you goals.

After you’ve done this, be sure to block out time on your google calendar to get these tasks done. The reason why this is important is because by blocking out time, this will show you how much you can actually get done in a day. If you are anything like me, then you probably have a habit of putting way too much on your plate. Blocking out time and visualizing how much time you have will help you to be more realistic with your to do lists.

Next, ensure that you are using a planner. It is a good idea to start writing everything down that you need to get done. By writing down your list, it will make it a little easier to remember. It is also easier to cross out different items on your list and keep track of everything you need to get done.

One success tip is to plan time to debrief with yourself. It is a good idea to debrief every Friday or weekend. This will help you to reflect on what went well and what you can improve upon. This will ensure that you are taking time to check in with yourself so that you are on track to meet your goals.

It is also very important to work in a place where you know you won’t be distracted. As an example, if you have a hard time concentrating when people are talking in the background, then working at a coffee shop may not be ideal. Consider making a list of places where you could work so increase the likelihood that you will not be distracted and default to the same ole distracting places.

Finally, this last one is a bit cliche, but consider putting your phone away when you need to get work done. Our phones are huge distractions, so putting it away for even half an hour could help you to stay focused.
