What Is Canva?
Before answering the question, how much does Canva Pro cost, let’s explore the origins of Canva. Launched in 2013, Canva is an online design tool that helps individuals and teams to design just about anything. As an example, Canva allows users to design brochures, presentations, social media posts, and even business cards. Canva provides various elements to help your design come to life, such as a variety of fonts, shapes, graphics, and more. Canva also provides stock images and video, and there is even a built-in video maker on the platform.
How Does Canva Work?
The first step required to use Canva is to create an account. Once you do this, you have the option of creating a design. You can find the button to create a design in the top right corner of your dashboard.
Once you select this button, you are presented with a variety of options. Each type of graphic provides different dimensions and settings. This is one of my favorite things about Canva because you don’t have to think about what the dimensions will be for the graphic that you would like to create. It can be a little time-consuming and frustrating to look up this information, so Canva is a step ahead and provides the dimensions for us.
Once you select the type of graphic that you would like to create, you can get to work! Canva does an excellent job of providing ready-to-use templates for pretty much any design out there. I think these templates are extremely helpful, especially for people who may not have a knack for design.
From here, you can begin designing your graphic! There are a ton of tools to help along the way, such as the use of the elements tab on the left.
What Is Canva Pro?
As if Canva wasn’t great enough, there is a Pro version that takes these features a step further. Canva Pro is the premium version of Canva and provides enhanced features, such as the ability to create a brand kit, a background remover, a resizer, and even a content planner. I’ve personally found the most use for the background remover – Canva’s background removal tool works seamlessly and is very convenient if you design a lot of graphics. Now let us answer the big question – how much does Canva Pro cost?

Is Canva Pro worth it?
Now that we’ve answered the question of how much does Canva Pro cost, it is time to determine if Canva Pro is worth it. So, is Canva Pro actually worth it? I think it is important to ask yourself how often you would use the Canva Pro features. If you are constantly designing graphics and would need tools like background remover or additional graphics and videos to choose from, then I think it is a great investment.
I have found a lot of use for the Canva Pro features. From downloading transparent logo files to using the background removal tool when creating YouTube thumbnails, I have found Canva Pro to be extremely useful. Canva has basically everything you would need to design graphics and I think it is much more convenient to pay for this tool than to go and use multiple free tools.
Canva Pros and Cons
When considering whether Canva Pro is worth the money, I think it is important to consider the pros and cons of this tool.
Pros of Canva Pro
Pre-Sized Templates
One of the biggest Pros of Canva (free and Pro) is that this tool provides templates that are already sized correctly based on the platform that you are using.
Stock Footage
Another benefit of using Canva is the wide variety of images and videos to use on projects. You don’t need to search the web for stock photos and videos because Canva has such a huge library.
Background Removal
The background removal tool is also extremely useful. I can’t say enough how helpful this tool has been. Also, the background removal tool works really well when compared to other tools. It is also much easier to use than Photoshop’s background removal tool.
Transparent Image Download
The ability to download transparent images is also a huge bonus of Canva Pro. This is great if you have individual icons or logos that you would like to download and use.
Cons of Canva Pro
Limited Designs
One of the biggest cons of using Canva is that design options are limited. While Canva is great for social media posts, it isn’t ideal for product photography, as an example. To correctly modify a professional image, you would need a more enhanced tool like photoshop.
Layering Issues
Another struggle that I’ve faced when using Canva is the use of layers. Sometimes the layers get stuck behind one another and it becomes frustrating to move around elements or text.
Canva is for Design Newbies
If you are someone that wants to continuously learn and expand your knowledge of design, I’m not sure that I would recommend Canva. While it is great for folks that want to create images on the go, the capabilities are somewhat limited for more complex design projects. This is where tools like Photoshop, InDesign, or Lightroom would come into play (I love these tools as well).
How could Canva be improved?
I think that Canva could be improved by introducing additional templates for each of its categories (social media, brochures, presentations, etc.). The reason why I am suggesting this is because you can tell who uses Canva because so many people use Canva. You begin to recognize similar styles used by various creators. I think having a larger variety of templates could help to improve Canva as a whole.
Another area where Canva could be improved is the photo editing tool. You are able to make adjustments to photos that include brightness, contrast, and saturation. I’ve found that these tools don’t produce very good quality and you would probably be better off editing in Photoshop or Lightroom.
Canva Continuing Education
Something that I like about Canva is that the platform provides courses and tutorials. These trainings help users to make the most of their Canva account while also providing additional value, such as branding your business and graphic design basics, among others. The tutorials are also very helpful for teaching users how to navigate the various features provided by Canva.
Who should get Canva Pro?
Canva Pro is excellent for users who need to create graphics and marketing assets quickly and frequently without needing to learn the principles of design. If you create a lot of content for social media, for example, then Canva is going to be a great option. I also think Canva Pro is going to be good for people who don’t have time to learn the fundamentals of design.
Who should not get Canva Pro?
Canva Pro is not going to be a good option for someone who only needs to create graphics every so often. I also would not recommend Canva if you are a true designer who wants to learn the principles of design and improve upon your craft. For this, I’d recommend Photoshop, InDesign, or both.
Is Canva easy to use?
Canva is very easy to use, which is why it is a leading choice for many people who need to quickly create amazing designs. I think that Canva is extremely intuitive. If you have any trouble with using Canva, check out these Canva tutorials.
