Practice “Just in Time” learning, where you only read about stuff that you can implement within the next 1-2 weeks! If you try to learn everything at once you will overload your brain and it will explode (just kidding, not really). My best tip is to set up some files on your different systems labeled “topic: learn later”. So for Pinterest, I have a secret board with sections in there, and whenever I see something of interest I’ll save it to a specific section and then come back to it when I’m ready to learn about it. There are many tools that exist to help YouTubers, including TubeBuddy and VidIQ to name a few. This article will provide my review of Morning Fame. This is an invite-only tool designed to provide a better way to review your YouTube analytics while also providing an SEO tool to help you rank in search. I’ve used multiple YouTube video tools and Morning Fame definitely presents YouTube analytics in a different way. I can’t wait to get your thoughts on this platform – let’s get started with this review!
What is Morning Fame?
Morning Fame is a YouTube performance tool that helps users simplify their YouTube video analytics to help them grow on YouTube. Morning Fame does a great job of helping you optimize your videos for YouTube search. This tool also provides recommendations to help you grow your YouTube channel. Morning Fame is different than Tube Buddy and VidIQ in that analytics are displayed in a more user-friendly way instead of simply repeating the analytics that YouTube has already provided.
How does Morning Fame work?
Morning Fame is pretty easy to use. Once you sign up, you will need to grant the tool with access to your YouTube channel so that they are able to pull the metrics.

Features – Traction
The traction tab analyzes your entire YouTube channel as well as each of your videos. Videos are analyzed based on a few metrics that are considered extremely important for growing your YouTube channel. What I like about this tab is that it breaks down these analytics in a consumable, easy-to-understand way.
The first set of analytics provided to assess your YouTube channel includes whether your channel growth is speeding up or not. This overall assessment is based on the performance of each video that you publish. The goal is to be able to make better videos that ultimately result in a channel that is growing consistently.
The next analytic shows your average views. Next, you will find average view duration. If you are underperforming, you have the option to join a workshop to improve average view duration. You are also provided with a view duration baseline that you should aspire to meet to grow your channel.
Finally, you are provided averages for likes, comments, and subscribers gained as well as whether you are meeting the mark or missing it. Overall, this section of the traction tab provides a great, easy-to-consume overview of how your channel is performing. You are also able to gather insights around how you can improve the content on your channel to grow.
You are able to look at these metrics for all of your videos on one page to get a good idea of what content works for your channel. I really like this feature because it helps me to easily understand what content that I need to be making more of on a regular basis to grow my channel.
This feature also tells you which videos are being shared more often. This is another indicator of what content that you should lean into more often.
You can also sort by average view duration – this metric is absolutely critical for growth on YouTube!
Features – Strategy
In the strategy tab you are able to critique your channel’s performance. This tab provides insights around where your channel stands with views, watch time, engagement and subscribers compared to typical channel performance.
The strategy tab features a section called growth opportunities. This section highlights videos that you should create more of based on how they performed for your channel. This section also highlights the videos that performed very poorly for your channel that you should avoid creating in the future.
The strategy tab also shows how your playlists are performing for metrics like views, view duration and subscribers gained.
The last insight from this section provides feedback around whether your channel is growing or not.
Features – Workshop
The workshop tab portion provides lessons based on areas that you need to improve so that you are able to grow your channel. This is very helpful because unlike other tools out there, Morning Fame provides actionable information all within their platform. You don’t need to go digging on YouTube for an hour to figure out how to improve engagement on your videos.
Features – Velocity
Velocity measures how many views and likes you get in the first hours of the life of your video. The more views and likes you get in the first 72 hours, for example, the higher velocity that particular video has. This metric is extremely important on YouTube. A high-velocity video that gains significant traction as soon as it is published is much more likely to get pushed out through YouTube’s algorithm. This is ultimately what leads to massive channel growth!
Another really cool aspect is the ability to perform keyword research! You are able to perform keyword research for 24 hours every 12 days. I’m not sure why Morning Fame has created these time parameters, but I did find this interesting. This could be to force users to quickly perform research and take action so that they are able to move the needle on their channel.
How much does this tool cost?
As of right now, the plus plan costs 12.90 a month when paid by the month, or 9.90 a month when paid yearly. The basic plan costs $4.90 a month when paid by the month, or 3.90 a month when paid yearly. When compared to other YouTube video growth tools, Morning Fame is extremely affordable!
Cons of Morning Fame
While I like Morning Fame overall as a tool for growing on YouTube, here are a few cons that I’ve noticed with the tool.
One con of Morning Fame involves the time parameters provided for using the keyword research tool. While Morning Fame provides 24 hours every 12 days, sometimes 24 hours isn’t quite enough time to get keyword research done – especially if you are busy.
The next con of Morning Fame is that it is invite only. I understand that this helps to promote curiosity and exclusivity. This stipulation does makes it a little more difficult to gain access to Morning Fame. This might not be ideal if someone is really interested in using Morning Fame but cannot figure out how to gain access. Also, if you google ‘Morning Fame access code,’ you will definitely be able to find an invite link. Based on this, the invite only aspect seems pointless.
The lack of a competitive analysis feature is a little disappointing. This can be helpful to know what video content is and is not working for your competition.
The lack of title and thumbnail analysis is probably the biggest con in my opinion. If you have a poor thumbnail and video title then it will be challenging to gain traction on a video. If people are not interested in the copy or thumbnail on a video, then they will not click on it.

This is a great thing and ultimately creates the need for expert videographers to create stunning and effective content. With that being said, this article is all about starting a video production company. Before we get started, I first want to define what is a production company. This definition is coming straight from my head and personal experience 🙂
A production company is an organization that produces video for a client. More specifically, this organization facilitates the video production process with the end client, including the use of equipment, planning the concept, filming and editing the end video.
How’d I do? Ultimately, video production is all about creating an effective video for the end client, whether this is for a business, wedding, event, or really anything else. It is up to us, the videographers, to effectively facilitate and execute on this process for a high-quality product. Ok, let’s move on to more of the specifics when it comes to starting a video production company!
Let’s start with your business plan. There are so many things to consider when starting a video production company and I think that a business plan can help you to get your thoughts together. Because launching and growing a business is complex, it is always a good idea to create a plan before you get started.
For example, imagine starting a business with no plan at all. You don’t have a clue how you will scale your business past your first couple of customers and you also don’t even have a rough timeline in place. Outside of that, if you plan to eventually rent space for your business, you aren’t entirely sure when or how you will get to that point. Sounds like a recipe for failure, am I right?
Alternatively, the exciting thing about creating a business plan is that it helps you to stay on track so that you can actually meet your business goals. Even if you don’t meet that exact goal, having a plan and process in place to follow can help you to get extremely close to that goal (which is the goal, haha).
Video niche focus areas
Ok, let’s get real for a minute. When we are new and learning how to start a video production company, we are likely to accept work from anyone and everyone. As we grow our business over time we are likely to raise our prices and get more selective. With that being said, I totally get that niching down in the beginning might not be completely do-able, but I think it is still a really, really good idea to know what direction you’d like to go with your business.
This is important for a number of reasons when it comes to starting a video production company. First, when you know and understand your target audience, you understand how to market to them. More specifically this means where to reach them (which social media platforms, websites, magazines, events, etc.) and also how to talk to your audience and what resonates with them (does this industry use specific jargon? Are they more casual? More formal?).
When you hone in on this messaging over time, this helps to create a strong brand for your business. Your past clients, friends and family will also understand how to refer you to potential clients, which is absolutely critical!
The next thing that I want you to focus on when learning how to start a video production companyis your market analysis. More specifically, the market analysis consists of researching the market value of the videography industry as a whole, the specific clients that you will serve, as well as potentially the types of services that you plan to sell.
A few good metrics to capture for these areas include:
Industry trends (like growth, as an example)
The biggest players in the market
Any context/history on the industry
This information is important because larger industry trends can inform how profitable the market will be as well as how you should approach this market. You might also consider completing a Porter’s Five Forces diagram, which analyzes the different potential threats and advantages when entering a new market.
The next area of focus for your business plan is a competitive analysis. When creating your competitive analysis, I’d recommend including the following:
Name of competitor
Length of time in business
Areas the competitor serves
Services / pricing
Social media presence
This information should provide a good, solid foundation around who the competitor serves and how effective they are in doing so. Create a list of at least 10 competitors (I know, I know, this is tedious!). This is important because this will start to provide you with an understanding of what needs are being served as well as potential gaps. For example, you may find that most of the videographers in your area do strictly video production and little to no video marketing strategy. This could be a great opportunity for your business to come in and serve that need in the market (if there is one, of course!). Services and Prices
Next, it is important to identify your complete set of services as well as your pricing. When learning how to start a video production company, you should know specifically what you offer as a business because trust me, you will have people ask you on the spot. You want to know off the top of your head everything that your business can provide. This will also be helpful when it comes to getting referrals because people will know how to refer you to others!
When it comes to pricing, what I will say is to do your research and strive to charge what you are worth. Starting extremely low will make it that much more difficult to raise your prices in the future. Pricing in and of itself when it comes to business is very complex – expect a more in-depth blog post on this topic in the near future!

Having a solid marketing and sales plan in place is absolutely critical. There is so much that I could say about this topic – I honestly could probably write a book! Between working in marketing and sales enablement previously to getting my masters in marketing, this is one of my passions. But I digress…
Here is how you should start your marketing plan for your video production company:
Determine where your audience hangs out! Are they online? What platforms? Do they read certain websites and blogs? Do they go to networking events?
Go where your ideal clients are likely to hang out! This is so important. You need to make yourself visible to the types of clients that you want to get.
Everything that you do when it comes to marketing should center around those top to bullet points above. I am going to do a more in-depth article around how to market your video business, but a few other ways to reach your target audience include:
Aligning and creating partnerships with businesses that serve similar clients
Creating testimonials and pitching them to websites/magazines that your customers read
Develop an active social media presence – post content that your target audience wants to see and engage with them regularly!
So we all know that finances are crazy important, especially when it comes to running a business! Finances could be make or break for your business, yet so many people overlook this section of a business plan or even purposely skip it because…numbers. Still, as a business owner, it is your responsibility to plan for the financial health of your business.
Here’s what I’d recommend (but also, do your own research). Create some sort of excel spreadsheet or table to keep track of all of your business expenses (this is separate from what you’d turn into your tax person). This is a very important aspect of learning how to start a video production company and should also include expenses like your business overhead. You also want to project your planned revenue for the next year. Not only is it important to have a plan, but visually seeing how your business can grow is motivating. Planning your business goals
Ok, so now that we have all of these details mapped out, let’s walk through planning your business goals.
I think it is important to have both short term and long-term business goals when learning how to start a video production company. The short term goals give you something to reach for immediately, and the long-term business goals keep the vision of your business in check. These goals can also be used as a checkpoint to determine if the short-term goals actually make sense for your business.
With that being said, it would be good to create 5 long-term business goals and 3 short-term business goals. The long-term business goals could be anywhere from 1-3 years from now. The short-term business goals should be within 6 months from now.
Setting up your business
When it comes to setting up the legal framework for your business, I’d recommend consulting your local government. It is very important to be compliant for both legal and tax purposes. I started off as a sole proprietor but quickly moved to an LLC.
Preparing to launch your business
Outside of creating your business plan, there are a number of tasks that must be completed prior to launching your business. These are critical when it comes to successfully starting a video production company!
The first of these tasks is to create promotional materials for your business. No, this doesn’t mean create a bunch of flyers (however, this may work depending on your location and niche!).
More specifically, I’m referring to creating some sort of website for your business. When you are just starting out, I do not think that it is important to spend a ton of time or money on your website. Of course you want it to look good, but it does not need to be super advanced. A lot of times when someone is just starting their business, the website will become a bottleneck and take up a ton of time. This is not ideal when you are starting out because you want to keep the momentum going and spending extra time on your website isn’t the best use of time.
What I’d recommend is creating a simple website with your portfolio on one page and then specific pages for each industry you are targeting (weddings, real estate, etc.). This way it will be easier for someone to find exactly what they need. Of course, creating a portfolio is extremely important when it comes to video production. I will have an article coming up on this topic soon!
Next, you want to ensure that your social media accounts are active and have content on them. Specifically, I’m referring to Instagram, Facebook and YouTube if possible. You might not think this is important, but if a potential client lands on one of your social media pages and it isn’t active, this could severely hurt your chances of working with that client. People may assume that you aren’t open for business or that you aren’t as good at what you do.
Next, I’d recommend investing in some business cards. You never know who you will meet and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked for a card and didn’t have one on me. Learn from my mistakes, please!
Finally, equipment is a must when it comes to starting a video production company. Of course, we all have to start somewhere!
We touched on the importance of sales and marketing in an earlier section when it comes to starting a video production company. Essentially, you want to put yourself in front of your ideal client. One big mistake that a lot of people make when it comes to starting a business is waiting for clients to come to them. This may happen eventually, but definitely not in the beginning.
So, when starting a video production company, be sure to get active in different networking groups, guest write for websites, or even create ads in popular magazines for your niche. I also recommended in an earlier section to establish partnerships with business owners that serve the same clientele. There are a lot of ways that you could create visibility for your business and I will be writing another article on this soon. To start, I’d recommend using the ideas that I’ve provided and start brainstorming different strategies to try!
Working with clients
This section focuses on your process and workflow when it comes to working with clientele. Your workflow and client process is one of the most important things when it comes to starting a video production company. This is important because you want to be organized from the start when you are working with clients. This will ensure that the process goes smooth on your end and results in a stellar customer experience!
Alternatively, if you have a process documented and things are not going so well, this at least gives you a baseline so that you know here you are and can improve upon what already exists.
With that being said, be sure to document your entire process from the moment you begin speaking with a potential client to after the final invoice has been paid and the video has been delivered. Understand the different touch points so that you don’t miss anything. Even the number of check ins with a client can make or break a project.
Here is an example workflow:
Initial contact with the customer (this could be your cold outreach or someone contacting you)
Set up initial phone call / pitch packages
Send invoice for first half of the project
Send video concept
Follow up for feedback / discuss on phone if needed
Revise concept as needed
Schedule day to shoot video
Send first edit
Allow for one round of edits
Send final file plus invoice
Send feedback form
Of course, how you prefer to engage with a customer may be different, but I wanted to provide an example of what a customer workflow would look like when learning how to start a video production company. It is a good idea to keep this consistent so that the entire process is measurable and repeatable (my inner marketing/business nerd is coming out!).
Since this section covers workflow, I also want to mention the importance of contracts! These documents are so important because they are really the only thing that will enforce whether you get paid and whether the client gets their video. I highly recommend speaking with a legal professional and potentially having them draft a contract for your business. Trust me, there may be loopholes in the ones that you find online and the last thing you want is to work for hours and hours and not get paid. Also, contracts are a great way for the client to protect themselves so that they get their final deliverable.
Now that we’ve covered the general process of interacting with a customer, let’s review the video creation process. I’m not going to run through the specifics of this process in this article (comment if you’d like me to create a separate post for this!), but I’ve listed a few important questions to ask yourself when it comes to the pre-production, production and post-production processes. These questions are critical when it comes to learning how to start a video production company and are based on my own experiences, lessons learned, failures and successes. Of course, I don’t want you to repeat my mistakes, so I hope these help!
Understand how long you will need for each step in the process
What documents are needed (contracts, releases, etc.)
Where do you need the client’s sign off?
How many / who needs to be involved on your side?
How many checkpoints should you have with the customer along the way?

Ok, but really though. This section is so important because once you’ve spent time and money investing in your business and completing projects, you want to get paid!
I first just want to say that I’m not a legal expert by any means and my recommendations are based on what has worked for me, so I’m not liable for your business decisions (whew! Glad that’s out of the way…). There might be a better way of doing this, but I always ask for 50% of the project fee up front. I always invoice for the final 50% once the project has been delivered.
When it comes to working with wedding clients, I’d recommend 50% to book and 50% two weeks before the wedding. This is because weddings keep couples busy and you never know long long they will be on their honeymoon!
When it comes to getting paid for your work, the payment schedule should be clearly outlined in your contract. You should also be very clear with the customer around when you expect payment. I can’t stress how important these factors are when learning how to start a video production company.

I mentioned in the previous section why selecting the right name for your production company is and is not important. When I say it is partly unimportant, I mean don’t stress over this part too much. If you are anything like me, you may have spent countless hours trying to figure out your production company name. Trust me, I’ve spent way too much time on this process in the past and have even stressed out over it! I don’t think that is the right way to go about it and definitely want to save you some stress in the process.
Alternatively, selecting a name for your production company is important because this is ultimately how your company will be portrayed to the public. It is important to consider how people may perceive your video production company as well as the potential good or bad connotations that could go with the name that you have selected.
Another tip that I have for you when it comes to production company names or film company names is to give yourself plenty of time. In my previous example I mentioned that I’ve spent hours stressing over coming up with the right name for my production company. If you give yourself plenty of time to do this it will help to reduce a significant amount of stress for you in the long run.
It’s all about the brand
When it comes to coming up with the right name for your video production company, it is so important to think about your brand. I mentioned previously that you should consider how your business name may come across to other people. It is just as important to think about the entire brand of your business when you choose a name.
Consider the following questions:
What images does your business name evoke?
What will your logo look like?
What imagery will go with your brand?
What shapes, colors and designs will go with your brand?
When people say your business name, what do you want to come behind?
What kind of legacy do you want your business and brand to leave behind?

What to avoid when brainstorming video production company names
We’ve reviewed a few key best practices when it comes to branding and I also want to take some time to review what to avoid when brainstorming film company names. Some resources on the internet may suggest doing a competitive analysis when it comes to naming your video production company. I’m usually all for a good competitive analysis, don’t get me wrong – but when you are in the initial brainstorming process, the last thing that you want to do is to limit your creativity with bias. For this reason, I would strongly recommend avoiding competitive analysis prior to the brainstorm stage. This will help to encourage you to create as many names as you can without limiting yourself. If you look at competitor names beforehand, you will have these in mind when brainstorming and this can severely limit your creativity.
Instead, wait to do the competitor research until after you’ve completed the brainstorm stage and selected the final group of business names that have made the cut.

Ok, now onto the fun part of brainstorming some film company names. Be sure to set aside around two hours to fully brainstorm as many names as you possibly can. Do not limit yourself – be sure to write down anything and everything that comes to mind. What may seem like an ordinary name in your head may actually be the next big film empire.
Here are a couple of methods to aid you in your video production company name brainstorming process. I spent a few hours looking for better ways to brainstorm business names when I was starting out, so I hope that these tips help you!
The first thing to consider when brainstorming film company names seems pretty simple, but it isn’t always obvious! Consider incorporating your name into your business name somehow. If my last name weren’t so difficult to pronounce, I’d definitely go this route. This way you are building a brand based on what you bring to the table while also building your personal brand.
The next method is to incorporate an acronym into your business name. For example, you may want to create a business name using your initials. You could also put a few words together and instead of using those exact words for your business name, use an acronym. I’ve also thought about using this method because acronym-based business names typically come across pretty strong.
The next idea for creating your business name is to create a name that is based on two or more words. For example, if you really like the words “pink flower,” you could turn this into something like pinflo, inkflower, or pinker. While this isn’t the best or most realistic example, I hope you see what I mean! You can create a really unique and memorable business name this way.
Another idea is to craft your business name based on your location.This is a great idea if you know that you will be based in one location for a long amount of time. Another reason why this might be a good idea is because business names that are based on a location seem to provide a sense of pride for those working with your company in that particular location. This also helps to further establish yourself as a thought leader within the area that you live.
One reason why naming your business after a location might not be a good idea is if you plan to move sometime in the future. Even if you don’t plan to move it is important to consider whether or not you want to include a location in your business name because if you do this you will always be associated with a particular location. I actually named my business after the city that I live in and it definitely has its pros and cons.
Another idea for brainstorming video production company business names has to do with themes. Themes are interesting because this can help to conjure certain imagery when people think about your business. One example of when a theme might be appropriate for your business name is if you live by the coast. If you live on the coast, then you have the ability to really incorporate different nautical themes within your business name, such as the beach, ships, and really anything to do with the sea. One drawback for using themes when it comes to your business name is that sometimes it might not come across as professional and ultimately could limit how your business is seen in the eyes of others. For example, if you have a business that is called Coastal Creations Film Company, people might assume that you only do beach weddings or that you only work on the coast. This is kind of the same situation if you were to name your business after a city.
Something else to consider when you are brainstorming video production company names is to consider your why or your purpose for creating this business.
Ask yourself the following questions:
Why am I creating a video production company?
Who am I helping with my videos?
What value am I actually providing with my videos?
What impact am I making with my videos?
Why does the world need another video production company?
How am I different from other video production companies that already exist?
Okay, so you get the picture. The point here is to really understand your why or your purpose and once you do that you might have an easier time when it comes to brainstorming video production names. I recommend answering the questions that are listed above and then sort through the resulting words and responses to potentially incorporate into a business name .
Something else to consider when brainstorming video production company names is your industry or niche. If you know in advance that you will only be serving certain industries or niches then you might want to name your company after something within the industry or Niche in which you are working. For example, if your video production company specifically serves the law industry, then you might want to incorporate law into your business name. You could use something like fun law videos ( okay probably not the best example – pretty lame, I know).
Outside of your industry or niche, something else that you might want to consider when brainstorming video production business names would be the target audience that you would like to work with in your business. Most Industries have some sort of jargon so it might be helpful to consider this when naming your business. For example, if you create videos for the outdoors industry think about the different outdoor terms / jargon that you could incorporate into your business name
The reason why incorporating industry jargon into your video production business name is a good idea is because this will ultimately help to attract a target audience that you want to work with. If you incorporate something that has to do with the outdoors industry into your business name, then this will likely attract a lot more outdoors companies than it would law firms, for example.
The next method that I have for you when it comes to brainstorming video production business names is to use a mind map. A mind map is the process of taking one concept and then brainstorming sub concepts for that concept and so on and so forth. “This might sound odd because it’s rarely discussed in the same vein as blog monetization, but content strategy is critical.
A big problem I see bloggers make is that they dig into their niche research but they don’t dig far enough into specific monetization tactics and what types of content it takes to make those tactics work.
For example, a lot of tech bloggers will write product reviews and wonder why they earn less than a dollar from AdSense each month.
This is because the ad revenue model requires the ability to drive huge amounts of traffic. I learned this the hard way when I was working on a video game blog 9-10 years ago. On release day, we’d publish reviews of new games and consoles. But hundreds (if not thousands) of reviews would be published at the same time by sites far bigger than ours. If either one doesn’t align fully with the rest – growing your revenue will feel like pulling teeth… without anesthetic.”
“My best tip for monetizing your website is tripwires. I made $7 within 24 hours of setting up a tripwire and my blog was only 2 weeks old then. In the end, I made around $50 with 5 blog posts in my first-month blogging because of tripwires.
The advantages are enormous and it’s not a huge time commitment.
You start making money immediately. You are more motivated to build your email list. You prime your list to buy from you.”
“My favourite way to monetise a blog is affiliate links. But if you want your affiliate links to actually convert, my best tip is to really pay attention to what your audience likes, and then look for suitable products to promote. I see too many people in blogging groups asking ‘what’s the best affiliate network’ or ‘what’s the highest paying affiliate program’. But these people are looking at it backwards. If you pick your affiliate programs based purely on what they pay, you’re overlooking the most important part of the equation, which is whether your audience will actually be interested in the product. Let’s jump into my favorite ones for new bloggers (and not so new)!
If are serious about blogging, you should start thinking about joining Mediavine. In the past, I used other ad networks like AdSense, Medianet, and Monumetric, but none of them performed as well as Mediavine.With an average RPM of $20 (depending on industry), if you get 50k sessions/month and get accepted, you would be instantly making around $1,000/month.To reach this goal, Pinterest can be of great help. If you manage to get a couple of viral pins here and there you could manage to get the minimum traffic required to join Mediavine. After being accepted, if your traffic goes below 50k, they won’t kick you out!
If you are new to affiliate marketing, I recommend you to start promoting no more than 10 affiliate products. There are thousands of products to promote, but I always recommend to stay with the ones you’ve tried before. To promote affiliate links, I’ll include below the ones I use for my blog that might help you.
Review articles. You can create a review of a product or course providing your honest opinion and leaving affiliate links.
Comparison article between two products. Pros and cons, which one is your favorite, and why. At the end of the article, you can showcase which one is the winner and include your affiliate link. This type of article works very well because you are answering the question “which product is the best for me?” and helping to make a choice.
Explain an issue you had in the past, how did you resolve it, and link to the product that helped you resolving (for example a book/course). Chances are that some of your readers will go through the same issue and you can help them with the recommendation.
Email marketing. An email list is one of the most important resources for any business. It gives you DIRECT access to your subscribers and it’s a great way to make affiliate income. Every time I send an email to my subscribers I get at least one sale, normally more. Of course, I don’t spam them with emails otherwise they will lose my trust.
Remember that you should help your audience, so always recommend products you’ve tried and are happy with. If you promote something that is going to help them, it’s a win-win, and they will come to your blog for more. By applying these techniques, I managed to make a constant stream of over $1,000 per month from affiliate marketing.
Start Your Email List
If you only take one piece of advice from me, make sure it is this: Start Your Email List asap. Did you ever hear “the money is on the list”? Well, it’s true! I used many email list providers in the past (Mailchimp, Mail Poet, Convertkit), but my favorite one is MailerLite (cheapest and best service for the price, their customer support is also great). If you have less than 1000 subscribers it’s completely free. A few things to keep in mind to grow your list:
Create opt-ins (inside the article). Add a different opt-in for each blog category you have and create a freebie for each of them. People love free stuff and this will help a lot getting new subscribers.
Create pop-up forms (also give something for free). My pop-up opt-in triggers after 30 seconds of anybody landing my blog. If they close it, they won’t see it again until 30 days later (MailerLite has an option to set it up this way).
An email list is not for generating traffic but to make money. It’s true that you can get a bit of traffic if you link to any of your articles in the emails, but the real power is when you promote your own products or other affiliate products. From time to time you can give them some sort of freebie to keep them happy and engaged. Remember that it’s about trust 🙂
Create an email workflow. Every time you get a new subscriber you can automatically add them to a workflow. Workflows are sequences of emails that are sent automatically at a preset time interval. For example, if somebody joins today your email list, you can plan to send an email every 2 days that you have written beforehand. Doing this you will keep your new subscribers engaged for weeks and months (if you create a workflow long enough).”
“My best tip for monetizing a blog is to try affiliate marketing. So many bloggers either skip it or think that it’s as easy as slapping affiliate links all over their blog. I recommend starting by going to Google Analytics and looking at your top 10 blog posts, and really brainstorming what you think would be most beneficial to your audience to recommend. This is a great way to start because your top 10 blog posts have probably been popular for quite some time, and they most likely also generate the majority of your traffic.”
“When it comes to making money with your blog, you really want to think about what your readers need from you. If you are a parenting blogger, maybe affiliate marketing is where you want to be. If you are always talking about products that have worked for you and why you like them, then you 100% can be joining affiliate programs for the products you recommend! Nothing sells a product better than an honest review and letting others know how it has worked and helped you in your everyday life! If your blog is more on the education side, such as marketing, SEO, or anything digital, you may want to consider creating and selling a course. I know this is scary for a lot of content creators since the most common thing I hear is, “why would someone want to buy my course when they can find the info for free online?” People will pay for knowledge and accessibility. Why would they spend hours a day searching when they can get right into the nitty-gritty of it and be taught by an expert in that specific field. Filling a course with all the information you will ever need, all in one spot!
Be sure to set realistic expectations for yourself. Know that it takes time and dedication to make a consistent income with your blog. It took me a solid 18 months to really see the money start to come in. Slow and steady wins the race!”
“If you’re attempting to monetize your blog, the first (and best) thing you can do right off the bat is create and launch a digital product. Most people try all the wrong things when they’re getting started with monetization. They try to make money off of ads, only to find that ads require insane amounts of website traffic in order to make any kind of significant income. Likewise, they attempt to make affiliate sales, only to discover that affiliate sales rely in large part on a large audience size, as welll. Most monetization strategies require you to have a large audience in order to earn big. Digital products are different.
